A Workamper Has Died at Adventureland

This has been a very sad week at Adventureland.  I have given this a lot of consideration as to whether to write about this terrible accident.  Death is something that is inevitable.  At Eastgate Park in Texas, we have learned that it happens much more as everyone is a Senior.  It is sad, but accepted as the ending of life.  This is totally not expected by any means.   We must learn something by this happening.  It is a very sad time for this family, but let us all learn from this accident about safety.
I was working in an area called The Dragon.  Early afternoon, suddenly a golf cart came flying through clearing the people franticly.  Right behind was another golf cart.  On the back was a stretcher with a man in our park uniform.  He was very still.  Out of his mouth was a blue tube and a man was straddling him, working on his neck.  We later found out that he had fallen from the Raging River Ride down to the conveyor mechanism.   We heard he had head injuries and his feet were very injured.  For the next several days, nothing was heard.  The Park Management has never acknowledged this.  We did hear that the state came in for inspections, and found everything ok.  The ride was again opened.   OSHA of course is involved also.  So I suppose their are legal reasons as to why their has been no acknowledgment.  Sunday we seen this article in the DesMoines Register.  Its a very sad way to find out.  I have copied the article for all to read:

Steve Booher and his wife, Gladys, were enjoying retirement, traveling the country in their RV and visiting family and friends along the way.

Recently, the Oklahoma couple came to central Iowa, where the 68-year-old retired postal carrier took a summer job at Adventureland in Altoona.

“Steve was having a great time (at Adventureland),” Gladys Booher wrote on Facebook. “He loved watching the kids enjoying the rides.”

Then, on his sixth day on the job, tragedy struck, said his nephew Tim Overlin, of Des Moines.

Steve Booher was tending the amusement park’s Raging River ride when he fell on the conveyor belt June 7, fracturing his skull and suffering a major brain injury, his wife wrote. He was unresponsive and on life support until he died Saturday at Mercy Medical Center.

Polk County Medical Examiner Gregory Schmunk confirmed the accidental death was caused by a head injury.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating the incident.

Overlin said the family’s only knowledge of the accident stems from the limited amount of information in local media reports.

“It’s just a lot of grief and shock,” he said.

Witness recounts events

Zach Bauer was waiting in line to ride the Raging River on the afternoon of June 7 when he heard a commotion on the loading platform.

He didn’t see Booher fall, turning toward the scene as onlookers flocked to provide help.

At the time, the conveyor belt moving the rafts was in motion, said Bauer, a 22-year-old who lives in Des Moines. Several onlookers were yelling at the ride operator to stop the ride, he said.

“I know it wasn’t just a case of him slipping and falling without the ride moving,” he said. “I saw the ride take the man off his feet.”

The Raging River’s ride operator is housed in a booth above the loading platform. On the platform, other workers help riders in and out of the boats. Bauer said the ride operator came down from the booth and appeared confused, because he left the ride running.

Bauer has ridden the Raging River countless times; he held Adventureland season passes for several years. He said the workers on the platform generally give the go-ahead for the Raging River to begin.

“Usually when everybody was ready to go, they would give the guy the thumbs up, because he’s up above the ride,” he said. “I’m not sure what caused him to push the button.”

“Anybody who’s been on that ride knows that once that conveyor belt starts, it’s kind of a jerk. It starts really quick.”

Adventureland spokeswoman Molly Vincent  did not respond to questions regarding Bauer’s account of the incident. She previously acknowledged the ride was in motion at the time of the accident.

Inspection cleared ride to continue

One day after Booher’s fatal fall, state officials inspected the water ride and deemed it safe and free of defects.

“We did our inspection and we found no adverse conditions as far as the ride was concerned,” said Jim Borwey, who oversees inspections of elevators, boilers and amusement parks for the Iowa Division of Labor.

State officials examine each amusement park ride before the beginning of the season, Borwey said. This spring, investigators found no major problems with the Raging River, which Adventureland classifies among its family rides.

Jens Nissen, administrator of Iowa’s OSHA program, said he could not release any details of his agency’s ongoing investigation into the accident.

The agency must report its findings within six months, he said, though he expects a quicker conclusion.

Altoona Police did not immediately respond to the accident, but are now investigating the case, said Sgt. David Tinker. Investigators do not believe there was any criminal act involved but are piecing together what happened.

“We’re still looking into it, seeing if some other medical issue would have caused this, caused him to fall,” Tinker said. “We’re not sure.”

A family man

Overlin described his uncle as a family man. Both he and his wife had previously been pastors.

“He was really low key but always positive and always happy,” he said. “He was just so in love with my aunt. He would do anything for her.”

A Des Moines funeral home cremated Booher’s remains.

His funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Church of God in Pryor Okla.

====================================================

So my goal is NOT  to try to pass judgement on whose fault this might be.  Legally it will all be decided after all the investigations are complete.  It could be the Mangement, the Operator, or even Steve himself.  Or a combination of many things all happening at the wrong time.  It sure does raise many questions for them to decide.  We heard the operator was operating this ride for first time that day.  So did he get adequate training?  I do know Rich had orientation when we got here.  He had safety movies to watch.  Was their enough on the job training?  Should their be a safety switch that the assist needs to push to allow the operator to engage the ride.  So many questions for the authorities to answer.  For years this ride has operated safely……..until that day.

Basically, we need to learn from this tragic accident that Safety is ….NOT A JOKE….We take things for granted.  Just because we get by many times by doing things OUR WAY, it only takes once.   One time and an accident may occur.   It could injury you, your friends at work, or a terrible thought, your family member.  It could haunt you the rest of your life, that something that only took a second to occur has destroyed someone else’s life.  That’s a terrible burden to carry.  Think about safety….It is something we can follow everyday, in our jobs, our cars, and at home.  It is a part of life.

For all of my Advantage Logistics friends.  Our wonderful Sandy Knott was the best thing the company ever had .  She loved her job of Risk Control.  She was always living, breathing and preaching safety.   But it was heart felt.  She cared about all of us.  It was not about the paycheck, it was that she wanted us all to have a HAPPY, HEALTHY LIFE.   That was her daily goal.   She would laugh, and cry with us, what ever it took for her to help us make it through the day and stay safe.  They lost a wonderful caring soul the day she quit.   Thank You Sandy for everything you did for us, and everything you tried to do.  I sure hope your Appreciated for all your worth at your new job.

So Today is Tue.  One week ago Today,  this poor man went to work for his 6th day at Adventureland.  He never came home that day.  He passed away Saturday and his services were held today in Oklahoma.   How fast life can change in an instant.   This should have never have happened, but it did.

So lets learn something from it and go forward.

The “Monster” is Now Running

The new ride,  “The Monster” is now open for business.  It was opened a little over a week ago.  The night before, they let the park employees ride it.   Nope, NOT US…..but we watched.   The next morning the local newscaster rode it solo, live on his newscast, with a Go Pro on his head.  That was all I needed to see    NO THANK YOU.  We’ll stay on the ground.  The Iowa Governor was their that afternoon also.  They have installed some fabulous lights on it.  They are continually  changing colors.  As the coaster fly’s by the tracks color changes again as if the coaster is a shooting star.  Of coarse then you hear all the screaming coming from the car.  lol.

20160611_220440.jpg

Saturday, June 11, was our oldest grandson Camerons “18th” Birthday.  He drove out with his friend and spent 2 days.  He went to Adventureland of course, did some fishing at the pond here and grandpa took them out to eat at Bonanza Steak house in DesMoines while I was working.  We had different days off, so it was impossible to do things together.  I think they had a good time.  I know he enjoyed the road trip of 4 hours, especially since he just traded his pick up for an Eclipse.  That would be one of those models you fall in….then crawl back out…..

Happy “18th” Birthday  Cameron

I didn’t get a good picture of him here but this is one of my favorites from last Christmas when they were down at South Padre Island for the holiday.  We rented this jeep to ride on the beach…….So now he is “OFFICIALLY an ADULT”…..lol….Responsible for all his actions, Good or Bad…..lol….But at 18 you generally know it all right?….LIFE IS GOOD….

I’ll go back a bit with some pictures we took at our Workampers Chicken Dinner and Orientation.

20160525_144830.jpg

This is the HR Director Gary Paredekooper.  He took us all for a walking tour through part of the park before we opened full time.

20160525_142557.jpg

We stopped at  RATHSKELLAR Beer Gardens.  They offer 21 varieties of imported German Import Beers.  They also offer sodas and hamburgers, fries and other snacks.  We were allowed to all have a beer.

20160525_145731.jpg

We walked back to almost the Waterpark and seen the back part of the Tornado Rollercoaster.

20160525_145714.jpg

This roller coaster is The Outlaw.  After all that we went to back to the front to the Palace Theater.  We were given a Nice Chicken dinner and Welcome speeches from the Owners and managers.  They have hired over 300 Workampers this year.  We have been given free camping and an hourly wage, plus bonus is we stay till the end of the year.  Gary went to Arizona, Texas and Florida, last winter to recruit everyone.  So we have people in the campground from all over.  It is quite a group, and all so friendly.  Some have been coming back for many years.

20160530_132329.jpg

Here  is Rich in his uniform on his way to work.  We have been given 2 shirts, we supply kaki shorts or pants, black shoes with black belt, or white shoes with brown belt.  We are also given a hat or visor, and of course a full length rain coat.  We are out their   RAIN OR SHINE….and we have already used the rain coats.  We can only go into the park on week days on a day off to buy food or retail.  Otherwise we cannot shop or ride rides, in our uniform on working days.  We have a commissary for breaks with really cheap food.  But how have we been coping?     Well…..OUR FEET ARE SORE….standing for hours is really hard.  crowds had been really light so not a lot of business at the games.  We have to stay at our game at all times.  I have worked the games now in all 3 areas,   Alpine, Dragon and County Fair.  I’ve worked Bingo, Can it, Bash a Bully, Guess your Age and Weight, Roller Bowler, Derby Downs, Sea Race, Goblet, and Smashing Plates…..that’s just a few….lol….We change every day.  Now Rich works a ride for a week at a time.  He has worked as an assist on Himalaya, and then Operator on Chuck Wagon and now operator on Tilt a Wirl.  Starting tomorrow, he will be an assist on the rollercoaster The Dragon.  The weather has been really hot the last several days.  Mid 90’s with heat index over 100……..Last week I not only had achy feet, I started to ache all over and get a scratchy throat.  Well it developed into what I will call the Iowa Crud.  lol.  It seems every state has the crud that seems to take you down for a while.  My head was so full, I wondered how I would make it,  I really was beginning to think it wouldn’t, but it has now broken and every day is better.  I will survive.  But guess what,…..I gave it to Rich….He is in the recliner resting up for our next shift this afternoon of 90 degree weather.   I remember when we were first at the Gas pipeline last September and it was so hot, I thought we wouldn’t survive.  Once you get accustomed and find out how,  it really isn’t that bad.   Then you begin to enjoy your surroundings……lol…Words of Wisdom…..Yesterday, I brought my water jug, filled it full of their ice they supply.  Cameron showed me these Cool Wraps at Walmart.  I bought a 2 pack, and I believe they will be the answer.  Yesterday it felt so good to wrap my neck or just wipe my forehead with it.

cooling towl

“THANK YOU CAMERON”   This is my Salvation…..lol….

If it dries, just poor more water on it and it soaks in.   Great Product.  They were a 2 pack for $8.   Not bad at all.  Yesterday, I worked from 3-10.  I only had to rewet it twice.  It was nice to have something cool and wet to wipe my face and neck.  I worked the Duck Pond again, and we had more kids.  That made it more enjoyable.  It was a good evening, so I think I’m over the hump.  Feeling better and maybe now I can start enjoys this gig a little more……Rich is just going to have to suffer the next few days also.  My next day off is Thur, and his is Fri.   After that we should have Fridays off together.  Everything just seems to take time to work out…….

20160522_135622.jpg

Just wanted to report on this poor momma duck.   I had put her picture in the last blog.  She is still sitting in the middle of her flower pot on Main Street.  She has weathered several driving rain storms and all this high 90s heat with no shade or protection.  I sure hope her eggs hatch soon.  I have walked by her and she is panting.  I’m sure she stays their from the time the park opens till it closes to protect her eggs.   Kids are always walking by and talking to her and showing their friends.  Apparently they don’t bother her.

Tomorrow, I will be able to see her again and see her progress….

Adventureland….We Are Here

We have arrived at Altoona Iowa to work our Summer Job at “Adventureland”.  It is a really cool amusement park.  I subscribed to an Emailed newsletter couple of years ago.  It is called “Workers on Wheels”.   It is emailed once or twice a week and is full of tips and jobs for workamping.  Last December I was reading it, and this job was posted.  It was close to home,  only 4 hours, free campground, and hourly pay with bonus at the end of the season…..Why Not….Filled out the app online that nite.  The next morning my phone rang.  It was Gary from HR.  We completed a 2 hour phone interview that afternoon, and with in several days all paperwork was mailed back and forth……..Now the fun begins…….We were able to pick our own areas.  I chose Games, and Rich chose Rides.  Now tell me, Who has never as a kid, had a dream to work in an Amusement park……

We arrived last week to settle in.  Were trying to learn the routine, but as most places go, their is some confusion, but were all working through it.  It has only been open on weekends this month, so we asked to take a walk through last Sunday as we have never been in the park before.  So here is some of the things we seen.

2016-05-22-17.38.53.jpg.jpg

This is the Space Shot…..Not for me…..lol.   The Space Shot is a 235-foot (72 m) structure that towers over Adventureland launching riders up at 4.5 G’s and ending with a free fall of negative 1 G.

20160522_145119.jpg

Storm Chaser……OMG…….way to high….  The Storm Chaser is a giant swing ride that takes you 260 feet off the ground and spins those brave enough to ride it around at 35 mph.

20160522_142223.jpg

Raging River….Now I want to do this one.   The water was a most beautiful blue….

20160522_145359.jpg

We took a ride on the Aerial ride over the top of the park.  This was a nice ride.  On the way we went through the circles and loops of their brand new Thriller Ride.  New for this Season.   “The Monster”   It is still under construction, opening the middle of June.

2016-05-22-17.41.34.jpg.jpg

Rich heard today it costs 9 Million Dollars……Wow….on The Monster you will climb straight up a 133 foot lift hill then dropped at a 101 degree angle. At the bottom of the hill you will reach a top speed of 65 mph. The next element is a large Overbanked turn where you will be redirected into a Dive Loop that goes directly into an Omega Loop after which you will go into a sharp curve that will take you into an air time hill then and Immelmann loop. The car will then go into its last curve and it’s final inversion a Corkscrew (roller coaster element). The ride in total has 2,500 feet of track, five inversions and it will be the parks newest coaster in nearly twenty years.  It is in the final stages of construction.  They are testing the cars every nite.  They load them with sand bags for weight and have to run each car at least 1500 times before they can even begin to certify it for safety.  The are in the last stages of landscaping.  Everyone is so excited, especially the management. We heard they will be running adds on the local radio for someone to Win the honor of the First rider on the “Monster”……

2016-05-22-17.43.11.jpg.jpg

We crossed over a bridge and see some cute little ducky’s with their parents and lots of catfish and a few carp.  People were feeding the fish.

20160522_140113.jpg

The little train had just loaded and was taking off on its trip around the park.  This is just a small sample of what we saw.  We finally left exhausted from walking.  We never made it to the back of the park.  They have several more huge roller coasters, and Adventure Bay, that will be opening Saturday, Memorial Day weekend.  It is a huge water park with large water slides, wave pool, Lazy River, and other things that we haven’t seen…………The next day I actually worked my first day.   Would you believe I worked the Duck Pond…..lol….Pick up a duck and check the colored dot and see what you won.   I did that from 11 am – 6 pm.  I had a 30 minute lunch.  It was a Monday and all the schools had come with their busses for field trips…..So many kids….They really had a lot of money too.  Several of the kids spent $20 and $30 just at the duck pond.  I always thought the Duck Pond was for the little kids.   You wouldn’t believe the teenagers that were fascinated by picking up a duck…..lol….Now it was really easy but for lunch,  I had to punch out right near the Duck Pond, but had to walk to the commissary on my lunch time, eat and walk back and then punch in again.  All in 30 min.  We are not allowed to take our lunch in the park or even buy food in the park.  We have a commissary that has hot food or sandwiches and we have to go their for our lunch break.  Well see how that goes.

The kids all had fun that day and were really very well mannered.  One kid who was around 12 was leaning on my stand and I asked him.  “Do you want to pick a Duck?……  No, I’m broke.”……. I said, ” well I bet you had a good time though”…….   He said “I was, but I was standing in a line for a long time and was almost ready to get on and they closed it”……..”Really I said, Why”?……. “Some kid Pooped In it”…..hahah….I wanted to laugh, but he was so down cause he couldn’t understand why they closed the ride when he had stood in line and was ready to go….Poor Kid…..

So back to the campground I went at the end of my shift.  Tired…..Hot…..

20160520_182955.jpg

This is on the walk back to the campground.  A small running creek divides the campground from the Park.  This is the bridge to walk over.  We also have Molly the Trolley that comes through the park picking up guests.

20160521_175244-1.jpg   We aren’t aloud to ride it in uniform.  It would sure make life easier.

20160520_185900.jpg

Here is our campsite.   Rather hard to see, but we have a picnic table and a tree.  Luxurys we don’t have in Texas.  Rich had his orientation finally yesterday.  He will start as an assistant on the Himalayan.  He’s working it all weekend.  This ride requires 2 to run it.

himalaya_may28_2007_adventureland_117_187

This is a photo I copied from the internet.  Its about the best one I could find of the Himalayan.  The next day I was sitting out side and looked across the street.

20160521_110908.jpg  A flock of geese were out walking.

20160521_135152.jpg

Two came over by us looking for food.   Rich through out some chips and they ate them.  We also have a pond as you enter into the Campground, so between the creek, the pond and the water elements at the Park, their are really a lot of Geese and ducks all over.  You can hear them as the fly over a lot.  So today is Friday, the start of Memorial Day weekend.  What has it been doing the last 2 nites…….RAIN……But that always happens on this weekend.  At least one day.   A motor home lost their awning the other nite, and also a Pop up camper came in the other nite across from us.  They were up at 2 am as their awning blew up and over their little camper.  Today the park will begin being open full force every day……The summer season has begun…..Oh Boy….Here comes all the people and kids this weekend……We are working every day this weekend…

……..Life in the Amusement Park Begins…….

Home With The Family

We were home about 3 weeks.  We parked in the drive of our house, which of course is Tammy’s now.  They were all so happy to see us.  That weekend Scott and Brandy had Karaoke at the bar, One Paw’z Pub.  We went up and had a good time.  They had a nice crowd.

20160422_225117.jpg  Scott usually sings one song and he did again.  Brandy and Scott surely enjoy a good party. During this time, he also finished pouring concrete for his new patio out back.  His back room is also finished and he has finally installed his 4 slot machines.  You can already hear the sounds of “Ching ching ching”……

20160502_180803.jpg

Slots are all run by the wonderful State of Illinois Government of course.  The following weekend was McNabb Garage Sale day on Saturday.  We, or I should say Tammy cleaned out more of our stuff from the garage.  She did most of the work…lol..

20160207_175920

.She included lots of her stuff, kids clothes and all.  We had a pretty good day.  Sun was out, sprinkled a bit but not bad.wp-15854324580323156549612788601180.jpg

On Mothers Day, we all got together and finally we Hung up the Piñata from Mexico…..SPIDERMAN…. We bought him in Progresso Mexico.  Can you see us carrying him all the way across the border?….lol…He rode in the bedroom all the way home.  He was to big to put under the bed….lol…Every morning, you woke up to those 2 eyes looking at you from the corner…..We bought all kinds of Mexican candy.  It turned out some of it wasn’t that good but the grandkids had a great time.  They kept going into the bedroom and ask…”Is the candy in him yet?”….

20160508_161234.jpg

After we ate, we filled him with candy and hung him from the tree.

20160508_161305.jpg

All the little ones had several turns.  Poor Spiderman lost his legs first, and one by one his hands came off…..Finally all the candy came out flying to the ground.  They kids flew to the ground and started gathering the candy.  They made the strangest faces after they ate it….Some candy was good,  some was not so good.  We couldn’t really read the wrappers….lol…

20160515_132214.jpg

Very  pretty, Cassidy

Also Miley learned to ride her bike.   She has been making her dad go round, round and around the block in the evening…..lol..

She is so Happy….Her wings are spreading farther….During this time, I did alittle babysitting and Rich drove the sand truck for Scott a couple of days and the grain truck for the neighbor across the street.  I was able to visit with a number of friends in Toluca, and had dinner in town with some of my favorite work friends.  We also had dinner with 2 of our favorite couples from our FMCA camping club.  I was fun to visit everyone again.

The last affair we had was my niece Ashley’s Baby Shower.

20160515_134256.jpg

This is Connie, my sister in law, Rich’s youngest sister, and her daughter Ashley.  This is Ashley’s first baby and the first Grandchild for Connie and Brian. and also for Matts parents.  They are all so excited.  Connie planned this fabulous shower and found out she is a really crafty person.  She made so many things.   The Theme was” Cute as a Button”

20160515_123650.jpg

This was the Spring Valley Boat Club.  All fresh flowers on the tables.  Burlap pieces were placed down the center of the tables with buttons on them. All place settings had little cups and a little diaper filled with nuts and mints.  So Pretty

20160515_124151.jpg

The Head Table….The cutest  baby scale with a Giraffe sitting on it….

20160515_134647.jpg

Connie took twigs from her trees and hung little baby socks, headbands on the little trees.  So so cute…These were the center pieces on each table.

20160515_124428.jpg

Tina made this Awesome Harley Davidson motorcycle made out of disposable diapers.  More fresh flowers and baby blocks glued together

20160515_154747.jpg

Just look at all this detail.   Connie was at the florist, and glued buttons in the center of each flower.  Not one flower was left “Unbuttoned”….lol…

20160515_145805.jpg

Amazing amount of presents….On the other wall, it was full of diapers…

20160515_124529.jpg

Desserts galore…..Matts Mom planned most of the food……And I might add the food table was so full of so much wonderful foods, we could have easily served 200.  No one left hungry or without having their sweet tooth fulfilled that day.

20160515_154817.jpg

So so creative.  I must say, it was probably the most beautiful Baby Shower I have ever attended.  Connie has Discovered “PINTERST”   Look out Brian, your house has been taken over….lol…

So now, Ashley and Matt just play the waiting game.  Their little baby girl, is due in June.  That is NOT FAR AWAY…..but for Mommy and Daddy and Grandmas and Grandpas, it will be an “ETERNITY”…..

Stopped at Pink Elephant, Livingston Il.

On our way home we finally arrived in Illinois.  Have you ever drove down I 55 and around 40 miles north of St. Louis, their is a little town, Livingston, that has an Antique Mall?   Out front is a pink elephant and a Twistee Treat Ice Cream cone building.  We have always wanted to stop their, but seems like one is always heading somewhere with a time schedule.  This was our day finally.20160421_094045

We parked out front and looked at all the fun things in the yard.  The Pink Elephant Antique Mall is located in the old Livingston High School.  This school was built in 1927.  The gym was added in 1949, and continued to educate the children of Livingston, Population 825.  As all the small schools were consolidating, finally it was time for Livingston to consolidate with nearby Staunton.  The school closed in 2004.  Soon it opened as an Antique  Mall.  The antiques themselves are really no different than any other antique mall.  The unique thing about this one is the fact it is located in the gymnasium.  On the outside attached to the corner of the building is the Twistee Treat building.

20160421_105144

The story goes that the owner called the manufacturers in Florida asking to buy one. The manufacturers said they didn’t make them anymore and that there were a number of them around the US, and one in Pennsylvania that was unwanted. The owner drove to Pennsylvania and found this building in a ditch, with every type of animal living in it. The building comes apart into 17 pieces. The owner hauled the building from Pennsylvania to Illinois on a trailer through a snow storm.

By the Twistee Treat is an old 50s diner.  Its decorated as an old soda shop.  Out side are these 3 chipmunks.  Cute as can be.  Alvin is in the middle.  Over by the front door that goes to the gym is an Elephant that looks as it is coming out of the building.  Next to the Chipmunks is a big Beach guy in swimming trunks.

As we entered inside, we realized we were in the gym.  The floors and walls were still original, but now it was full of lots of little cubicles showing of their antiques.  We made a left and entered on the stage. It was also full.  The original curtains were still their.

20160421_095652

We walked across the stage and back down the stairs back into the gym.

20160421_095704-1

The stage was even outlined in Pink…..

20160421_095739

As we walked through the many antique booths, I seen this cute little boat.

20160421_100027

It was a Kiddie Boat Ride…..Price…..$1250….It is an extremely scarce piece of Coney Island History invented by German immigrant Wm. F Mangels.  he was responsible for many other amusement park attractions of the turn of the century and later.

20160421_100019

Looking up you see the original Painting of the school.  The Big L and Eagles with painting of 2 eagles on each side.  This is positioned at the end of the gym where the basket would have been.

20160421_101930On the other side we came to a very pretty Pink and White double stair case.  This took you up to the classroom part of the school.

Between the stairs was another corridor that descended to more classrooms.

20160421_101850This dude was sitting at the end of the hallway…..Rather rugged isn’t he…..lol…..

20160421_101923View from the top of stairs looking at the stage.

20160421_101930View looking over to where the basket ball hoop would have been.

20160421_105036

We went back out side and walked over towards I55.  Out their sits a UFO….lol..It is called a Futuro…..

20160421_104931

The distinctive flying saucer-like shape and airplane hatch entrance has made the houses popular among collectors. Futuro, or Futuro House, is a round, prefabricated house designed by Matti Suuronen, of which fewer than 100 were built during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The distinctive flying saucer-like shape and airplane hatch entrance has made the houses popular among collectors. It measures 13 feet high and 26 feet in diameter.  It was originally designed in Finland to be used as a Ski cabin.  Easy to transport and put together.  Could be built on almost any terrain, mountain side or beach.  It could be heated up in about 30 min.  By the mid 70s it was taken off the market.  It had collected lots of hostility due to the appearance and zoning regulations.   It is really quite interesting.  Google Futuro House and read more.

20160421_105033

Also out there is a Large Tricycle,  and A Harley Davison man.

20160421_105024

Proudly facing I 55 is a huge Pink Elephant, pulling a semi trailer with their sign on it…lol…This place was really cool to stop at.  It had a lot of unique things to see.  It is a fun place to stop and spend an hour or two off the road before you continue your trip.  Its just so cool to think about all those kids who use to attend school their, can now say that a Pink Elephant and Alvin and the Chipmunks live at their old school….lol…Even a UFO

20160418_110943

We had stopped at a fuel stop and they had some really neat things their.  This fish tank was just huge.  It was in the middle of the store and you could walk around it.  Notice the big fish near the top.

Also they had a really different Bathroom.

20160418_110639All the sink facets were motion sensitive.

20160418_110624

They were hammered copper basins with a western flair.  The water spigot was motion sensitive and shaped like a cowboy hat and opened onto a trough.   Really different.

20160418_105429

They also sold Patio Furniture.   This really cool painted tall bench sold for only $995.     Really….

20160418_105423

This 3 piece set sold for around the same.   Really nice but,  It’s just a little OVERPRICED……

All in all, Another Safe Trip…….Kitty is starting to enjoy I think…..

Ps.   For those of you who don’t know.  We are home now with the family but will be going to our next job, around May 17th.   DesMoines Iowa…..”ADVENTURELAND “…..It’s our summer job.   Rich is working Rides ……and I’m doing Games….

Heading Home…Houston Flood….

The time has finally come.  Would you believe we have been in Texas 8 months….Wow….We left last Aug. for Gate Guarding in the oil fields, did that for 2 months.  What adventures we had their.  Now we have just completed our time at Eastgate as Workampers again.   It’s really not work, it is visiting, talking, and making many new friends.

20160417_162420Pulling off our pad, getting ready to hook up the truck….

So yesterday we packed up and left.  We had been doing a little all week. We still had a lot to do.  We work best at the last minute.  Then we visited and said our goodbyes….Had to stop at Alice and Toms,  their from Maryland.  What good friends they have become.  Rich returned tools to Gary and Marge and said our good byes.  Then up to the office to get the rest of my things.  On to Debbie and Rick to turn in all our keys.  Next, really good friends Roberta and Ken…..Then on to the Hall, their was John and Sandy , Glen and Kathy, our new Canadian friends…..and of course Jean and Eugene…..Finally Off we went….

20160417_163908Alice and Tom from Baltimore Maryland, made signs….Be….Safe….

20160417_164326

Spider-Man is Watching Over  Us……..We Will Be Safe…..lol

It was before 5pm.  Everyone said, Stay another nite……But then the Good byes would start all over again….lol….A huge storm was coming, so we decided to head east.  Over to Houston and east to Louisiana, and then turn north on 55.  All the way home….

So we finally left….fueled up at the edge of town and went on our way.  We stopped the other side of Victoria, in a rest area for the nite.  We were 2 hours from Houston.  The big storm came finally.  It was forecast to extend from the Rio Grande Valley up to Dallas and past to Oklahoma, and heading east.  It would dump up to 12″ of rain.  It sure did. The news from Houston in the morning, was more like 12 – 20 “…..Streets were underwater, they closed the schools and told everyone to stay home if they could.

HoustonFlood-Houston-Flooding-flooding-deaths-galleria-flooded-flooding-video-footage-100-year-flood-rainfall-e1432670590174

Calls came in, people needed rescued.  Eventually  1200 people had been rescued and 6 people died.  Most of them was from driving into the flooded waters.  This was the worst flash flooding since Tropical Storm Allison in 2001.

299739_5_

We watched the weather on the Weather Channel App.  Finally we found a break and we took Interstate 10  all the way through Houston.  It was a good ride for us.  But when we went through, we could see many of the city streets below the interstate flooded.  Cars were sitting in the middle.  Flashers were on and in a few cases, the police or ambulances were their to help them.  We only had 2 places  where 1 lane was closed because they were full of water.  A friend, (Thank You Tammy Bellamy Bybee) gave us the website for Texas Road Closures, so we felt safe enough to drive through.

Houston-flood-2016

As we watched tv newscast the next morning, a news reporter was down by an under pass reporting on the flood.  Right behind him this man drove right into the water.  He got out of the car and the reporter still with the camera on him and his mike in hand, swam into the water and helped him to safety.  Crazy to be caught on video.  He was so lucky.

We made it through Texas finally, and stayed just north of New Orleans at the I 55 Junction.  Headed north the next day , all the way through St. Louis.  We timed it so we could stop at our favorite restaurant in Lincoln Illinois.  One of the old original Bonanza Steak House restaurants.  Love their buffet.  I always order their sirloin tips…loaded with mushrooms and onions….mmmmmmmmmmmm…

a2fe09187f2648ae99e997512248c595

We try to stop every time we go through.   It is a 3rd generation home owned restaurant.  It was built in the 70’s and is one of the few left in Illinois.  We left Harlingen on Sunday and pulled into the drive Thursday Afternoon.  Stopped up at the One Paw’z Pub, (Scott & Brandy’s Tavern)….Spent time their, unhooked the truck, and homeward bound.

Freddy Fenders Gravesite…..

San Benito is only several miles from Harlingen.  I like their Walmart better, they seem to have more things you need and not as busy as Harlingen’s, and its also on the way to Brownsville and Padre Island.  Right along the interstate you pass this water tower stating it was also Freddy Fenders Hometown.6790c5a5-0c64-4573-85c9-1b55804cf608_l

I did some research and found out he was buried at a cemetery at the edge of town.  Freddy had several hit songs that I remember,  Before the Next Tear Drop Falls, and Wasted Days and Wasted nites.  He was a country singer.  I really enjoyed his singing, although I never bought any of his records.Freddy_fender

Freddy was born June 4, 1937 in San Benito Tx.  His birth name was Baldemera Garza Huerta.  He grew up in a poor Hispanic neighborhood.  He grew up working with his parents in the fields as migrant workers.  Many of his fellow workers were black, and some of them, Fender remembers, were good enough singers and musicians to have been professionals. The blues music he heard in the fields would become an integral part of his own unique style.  Freddy hit the top Charts in 1975 as a bilingual Country Singer. Freddy Fender has had three successful careers-as a Hispanic/pop star in the late 50’s, a country pop star in the 70’s, and a member of the Grammy award-winning Texas Tornadoes in the 90’s. With his signing to Warner/Reprise, he began a new chapter in an amazing career that spanned nearly four decades.

TXSBEfender_leoannette2

He had a kidney transplant from his daughter, adopted daughter Marla Garcia, in January 2002 and a liver transplant in 2004. On August 13, 2006, he was diagnosed with incurable cancer and died on October 14 in Corpus Christi Texas.

I knew last year, he was buried near, but I had never bothered to find his grave.  So several weeks ago, Rich and I went to Walmart in San Benito, and I decided that we should find it.  I had looked up the directions earlier.  It was so easy, right at the edge of town.  His grave is in the New San Benito Memorial Park.  He was the first one buried their, and their is room for 300 burials.wp-15854293905683389532148710646402.jpg

There is a replica of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the sidewalk just behind his headstone. The back of the black granite headstone has a picture of Freddy playing his guitar with a spotlight shining on him.wp-15854294202944266408770619595981.jpg

The headstone and grave is surrounded by a large circular area of paving stones. Around the edge of that circular area are two black granite benches and six monuments commemorating his long career.  On the six monuments was all the information of Freddy’s songs, his history in the musical field, and all his awards.  Lots of important info that I didn’t even know .  He had quite an Amazing Life.

wp-158542949906290789467924900001.jpg

Adjoining this Cemetery was a very old one.  As I stood at Freddys grave, I looked over and seen the graves all decorated.  It was so colorful.  I had never seen one like it before.  So Rich and I drove over to explore.wp-15854295216881630047663527992428.jpg

This was the City Cemetery of San Benito.   I walked through this one and was amazed at how they decorated for Easter.  I vowed to come back again.

Again came  a day later….lol….My friend Alice and I decided to go.  “Cici, if you read this, well all go this fall when we’re all back…..You got to see this…..” I took many pics.  As Alice and I walked through, this is what we seen……wp-15854295895754760406660707468037.jpg

Notice  that all the plots are outlined.   Some painted, and many many flowers.  Also these plots are not in any order.   They seem to have buried wherever they had room.  So many are crooked and jammed in areas. wp-15854296277844846491159211890599.jpg

This was the grave of 2 teenage boys.  They constructed a pavilion and a basketball hoop.  They had just poured the concrete floor.  When Alice and I came, they had freshly painted it the maroon color of the pavilion.wp-15854296564622677639059103511809.jpg

This one was designed using tile around the edge walls.  It is full of Easter decorations and eggs.wp-15854296838033450624951748006781.jpg

Another pavilion.  This boy was just 18….born in 1991…died in 2009….another basket ball hoop….Many easter decorations.wp-15854297181188915201795156247913.jpg

Just look the beautiful headstone.  His picture is engraved and they still today 7 years later haven’t forgotten him.wp-15854297394389219929226929984468.jpg

This one was so interesting.  It was completely covered with the white bars and stood on a small rise on the hill.  The top was covered with a tarp to keep the sun from beating down.  It was locked up so nobody could get in.  Beautifulwp-15854297956605006677026278370522.jpg

This was the inside.  I stuck my phone inside between the bars.  Easter flowers were everywhere.wp-1585429823525486403800351534289.jpg

This was right down the hill from the big white one….It held several family members

wp-1585429849487891156954455452591.jpg

This one is also again a locked enclose.  Another young teen, who loved horses and apparently loved Budweiser.wp-15854298822717733837559437889641.jpg

This was a very old grave.  It is a childs bed, and a tree was growing up inside.  A cross is attached to the headboard.wp-15854299138346469464450218895298.jpg

Love the blue tile.  They even installed tile corner pieces and a small covering to shade the head stone.wp-15854299602503493263074526654740.jpg

Decorated for Easter.   See all the Easter eggs on the grave.  Check out all the butterflies on the tree…..wp-15854300334226161239750561547987.jpg

This was the grave of 2 teenage girls.  The bench and the grave stone is made of a pink marble.wp-158543006486784480044496728962.jpg

We found out later, that the girls were in an accident.  One died immediately, the other lived for 3 months and then passed away.   So Sad.  How had it must be on a family.wp-15854300961608781638195696056157.jpg

This is just a showing how close and how decorated they were.  Lots of palm trees and beautiful foliage.wp-1585430140709875255011387465586.jpg

This is a very old site.  The top of this enclose is covered with vines that have grown this way and just now starting to leaf out, as spring is coming.wp-15854301735858545463104608808061.jpg

You can see how some of the vines have grown and twisted on the bars.

wp-15854303321787736391833942976237.jpg

This is a close up of the vine that has grown and twisted around the bars.  It is so so old…..But still it has been decorated for Easter.wp-15854304522354030871728033066658.jpg

This is a close up of another fenced in grave….On this side was a child.  Lots of stuffed animals, and if you look closely on the table, you will see lots of bobbles that dance in the wind.  They had a garden swing in the foreground to swing and spend time with their loved one.

It was just amazing to me to see all the Easter Decorations.  They remember their family members after they have passed.  It is something I know my grandma did, but we have really stepped away from that practice.  We have forgotten our family members.  We really should stop and visit the cemetery’s of our family’s.  Tell our children and Grandchildren about the family history, and who these people are

……Our History is being lost…..

Two Hour Trip Down Rio Grande, Fun Fun

We took a trip down the Rio Grande, which is the dividing line between Mexico and United States.  Mexico was on one side, while the US. was on the other.  This was located in Mission Tx. which is about an hour drive.  We went with our friends, Cici and Larry.  They had went before and so enjoyed it, they wanted to go back.riverside_club

We drove to the Riverside Club and first had lunch.  Our reservations were for 1 pm.  We had about 45 mins.  The restaurant was rather touristy….A fun place.  They actually had down home deep fried tenderloins, the huuuuge ones.  Of course that’s what we had.  It was really a neat place.  They have seating inside, outside or under the canopy by the boat dock.  Such a pretty comfortable setting.FFFFFF 02-05-10 007

After we ate, we boarded Riverside Dreamer, which is a 55 ft. pontoon boat, which is enclosed and has A/C, heat, bathrooms and cushioned seating for 49 people.  We finally took off for our trip.  It was strange, knowing the Mexican border was the other side of the river.

wp-15854348988177366131203356547956.jpg

The first place we passed was an RV Park on the US. side.  It was located at Chimney Rock.  It was the place of an old irrigation pump and the Chimney was still left.

HHHHHHH along the river 024

The Campground was really nice, but right by the boat launch was a police tower.

wp-15854335087144576604566790463262.jpg

They telescope up so the Border Patrol can watch for Illegals crossing the river.  The river was so peaceful and calm that day.  The sky so beautiful blue.  Now on the Mexican side we seem some beautiful homes.wp-15854336567073794546030339944195.jpg

This one had been possibly been connected to the Cartel at one time.  Who knows, made it still is…..lol..wp-15854337012546561016197824720322.jpg

They had a beautiful flower garden by one side.wp-15854337254362577687449958292026.jpg

On the rivers edge was a glass front building, with tinted glass.  It was full of exercise equipment.wp-15854338432241519040526151463579.jpg

Another home was also very lavish in design.  At the end of the white arches was a waterfall.  But on the other hand, their was a lot of run down places in disrepair.wp-1585433877026326348535721301437.jpg

This place had been a resort at one time.  It is hard to see in the pictures, how large it was at one time and elaborate.  In 2010, Hurricane Alex came in and destroyed much of the land.  The river rose and everything was under water about a month.  Their are several lakes up river that had to open their flood gates because of excess water.  This resort and several others, were never repaired again.  So they now just sit here falling into disrepair.

Now on the US. side, we seen many sugar cane fields.  Theirs also The Bentsen State Park that covers many acres all the way to the river.wp-15854339054642110983384956113095.jpg

Also their are many homes along the river.wp-15854339259137615677177588931893.jpg

We seen lots of wild life, these Egrets, some turtles, ducks, even some cows on the rivers edge drinking the water.  Finally after an hour and fifteen minutes, we turned around for the trip back.wp-15854349398738295714155335667870.jpg

This is a border patrol boat.wp-15854340302247186972450977606628.jpg

Now this was on the Mexican side also.  It is a really cool area to have a party.  And the boat was down below docked ready for action.  Now as I looked around I wondered what is to keep the Mexicans from coming across.  There were many desolate areas on both sides where it would be easy for anyone to cross and not be seen. I finally asked the boat Capitan.  He said the river current is bad, and some die, but he said it is nothing to see everyday a boat go up river with only 1 and come back loaded…..a jet ski go up river and come back with another person.  He said if you stay in the valley after you cross, you have a 90 percent chance of making it and staying.  Many of these illegals have been living in the valley for generations. We also seen a fisherman on the US side.   I asked what the rules were for them.  Mexicans and US citizens can freely fish in a boat in the river.  It is only illegal if they dock on the other side.  Now it is so desolate in some areas, nobody would see if they brought anyone over to the other side and docked.  He said that their is over 400 miles of fence.  We have seen a lot of it, but thousands of other miles that still need fence.  He said it would take years to build one complete fence from the Pacific to the Gulf.  It would be so costly, and their are so many property owners, they would have to take much of the property by eminent domain.  It would be tied up in the courts for along time.   Just with what we seen, it would affect the Riverside Club and the Rv Park as well as many homes.  We finally arrived back at our dock.   What a Wonderful trip it had been.  Beautiful weather, and the river was so pretty and serene.  The sky was blue and the breeze gently blew….Perfect….We walked around awhile, and also seen another huge building here at the Riverside Club.  They have entertainment many nights of the week.  I think this could be a great car pool road trip for Eastgate next year.

……..Diner, Boat Trip and Entertainment…….

Our Valentine Day Cruise at Padre….

On Fridays, we have Coffee and Donuts in the South Hall with a short program from an invited outside guest.  In early February, Breakaway Cruises from South Padre Island was invited.  They told us of all the cruises they offer, Dolphin Watch, The Thriller, Pirate Ship, Deep Sea and Bay Fishing, Port of Brownsville, and Dinner Cruises.  They were offering tickets at special prices.  Rich and I,  and Debby and Rick (park managers) decided to buy tickets for the special Valentines Day Dinner Cruise.  It would be a 2 hour cruise in the bay, not the Gulf side, with dinner on the top deck.  NICE…….

20160213_153025

On Saturday afternoon, we arrived around a half hour early for our 4 o’clock cruise.  It was such a beautiful day.  It seems like every time we had been to South Padre Island, it was overcast.  Today would be the most beautiful day we had ever been their……Sunshine and Warm…..We boarded the boat finally after we watched them load all the food and dinner supplies.  Usually this boats capacity is much more, but for this Dinner Cruise, they limited it to 25.  The tables were all set up on the top deck, with table cloths and Valentine decorations.

20160213_160129_001

This was a beautiful private boat, that was docked near ours.  Notice the bench’s on the upper part of the boat?….Just imagine cruising through the water sitting up their watching the sunset, feel the boat swaying to and fro,  and the wind blowing through your hair with the sun beating on your face…………DREAM ON……..

20160213_173713

We finally pulled away from the dock and began our cruise.

20160213_162258

Across the aisle was 2 other couples from the Park.  Gloria and her husband, and Marilyn and her husband.  We followed the Island to the mouth of the Port of Brownsville.

20160213_163447

We watched as the Island became just a levee of concrete and rocks, with the Gulf on the other side.  The sea gulls were flying everywhere.  Finally we turned and headed towards the Port of Brownsville.

20160213_165129

As we headed in we passed a Shrimp boat heading out to the Gulf.  Ahead of him was also a tug boat.

20160213_164802

As we road along, their was also a Party Boat following us, doing the same trip.  Behind the party boat, you can see the dredges working on keeping the mouth of the Port cleaned out.

As we cruised the waiter began the dinner.  First we were served our drinks, water, soda, tea, or beer.  Our dinner was served.  First came our dinner salad.  Then we had a choice of Encrusted fish or chicken, with shrimp and peppers on a bed of rice.  Next we were given a small plate of fruit, consisting of grapes, strawberries, and watermelon.  Last, we had a marvelous piece of Cheesecake.  All this time we are just gently cruising in this beautiful sunshine with the gentle breezes blowing.

20160213_171159

Finally, we turned and headed up by Port Isabel.  We passed by an old oil rig that had been towed in from the sea.  It was waiting to be towed down river to the scrap yards.  You can see on the left the heliport.

On we went nearer to Port Isabel.  The sun was now getting lower in the sky……Beautiful….

20160213_171858

We passed some of the shrimp boats docked by the side.

20160213_171709

We went by a portion of Port Isabel that is an island.  It is only accessible by a bridge.  It was full of homes that all had water access at their back doors.  What a beautiful place to live.

20160213_173617

Finally we were back in the bay area near the causeway that crosses from Port Isabel to the Island.  Such a Beautiful Sunset…..

20160213_174100-1-1

We passed the Pirate Ship, that had been out on their cruise and was coming back…..We haven’t been on that one yet, but we did in Cancun.  This one is similar, as the staff is all dressed as pirates, and their is some “battles”  ….lol…AYE…..or so I hear….

20160213_163347

Finally we cruised up towards our dock area, passing the downtown area of the island, passing the tall Hotel in the distance.

20160213_173554

Such a beautiful  Sunset cruise……On a Beautiful Saturday Evening…..The end of a Beautiful Day at South Padre Island…….

Catching Up On Activities Around the Park

Their has been so much going on that I have not written about.  It seems life at Eastgate is so busy.  Never a dull moment.  On the other hand, the other problem is that I have had to find another way to transfer my photos to my laptop from my phone.  I did have my phone synchronized to Facebook.  All of them would go directly to fb and I could choose those to download to my laptop to write the blog.  Now Facebook has done away with that feature.  They have started a new App called Moments.  So far I have not found it compatible to the laptop, only the phones.  They seem to want you to share your pictures with everyone else.  That’s really not what I do.  So I’ve had to find a new cloud for storage.   That has been completed, and now I am moving forward again.  My phone is not quite a year old and it seems it ran out of storage already.  You mean 2550 pictures + is too many?…..lol….I guess…..I went to see about an internal memory card.   Well Samsung 6 doesn’t have one…..Darn…..So I have had to  download remove at least half my photos in the phone.  So now I think I have it figured out…..Its 2 steps forward and 1 step back….lol….That’s just the way it is.

In this blog I am just going to cover some of the things briefly that have been going on.  First we have started a Garden Club.

We only have five members.  lol  Pretty small.  We decided our first challenge was to spruce us our entrance.  It is full of Aloe and Mother in Laws tongue.

Very uninviting.  We wanted to completely redo it with plants that would flower and have different textures.  Now how does one raise money?……Have a Plant sale….lol…The girls drove through the park and found lots of plant starts that people wanted to get rid of.  They found old pots from people, used tin cans and milk cartons to repot in.  We advertised, we would take any pots or items that people were getting rid of.   We received more plants and pots.  We also made some mosaic blocks for the garden.   We scarfed up cement stepping stones from everywhere,  and also found some broken ones.   lol….We made many of the blocks.  The girls are now pros at mosaic work.  Finally we held our plant sale on two different

Saturdays during the Jam.  That would help bring in people.  We set up by the office so we were in great site of everyone.   All in all we did great.  We made over $250.  That was amazing.  Today several of us went to Grimsells, the Garden Center and we’ve come up with a plan of flowering plants.  Now just submit it to Debbie and get her blessings and away we go.  Now we feel good about presenting the owner with our plan and ask for the balance that we may need.

This sign will be moved also as it is a blind spot as we leave the park.  Their is a bicycle path, right by the street, following the length of the park.  Soon this should be transformed.

One day we were all going to go to Boca Chica Beach at Brownsville to collect shells.  Alice and I couldn’t go till late morning.  The others left early trying to beat the tide.  Low tide was around 5 am.  Well we didn’t meet up like we planned, but it was a beautiful day.

The sound of the waves crashing to the shore and the feel of the sea breezes whipping across your face and hair are just indescribable. So beautiful.  The beach is so untouched by the real world.  When vehicles drive over it, it doesn’t take long for the tracks to disappear due to the raising tide.

The sea gulls are flying around, and here and their you see the lone fisherman.

I’m saving them for Easter for table centerpieces.  To pretty to not use again.

We also hosted a Super Bowl Party.  We served Wings, smokies, Nachos and Cheese, veggie tray, Shrimp and Cheese Ball.  Everyone brought a snack to pass.  It was Great, more and more food.

We had prize giveaways and a Kindle for the Grand Prize giveaway at half time.

Next on the agenda is our Woodcarvers show here in Harlingen.  This year I haven’t done any woodcarving.  My friend Cici entered for her first time this year.

She received a First Place, a Blue Ribbon……She was so excited.  Her Dolphin is beautiful.

This was the table of our club. We have lost several members this year.  Some real talent.  These Hummingbirds were carved several years ago as a club project.

This year this project won a 3rd, but also won Peoples Choice.    All of our parks carving members had something in this project.  Notice the hunter by the tree.  The dogs have the raccoons cornered in the tree.  ……lol…..Peoples choice is an honor.  These group projects are all on display in our north hall.

Now my last piece is about a couple who has become good friends.  Gail and Dewey have been together for several years now.  Gail has been coming to the park for around 20 years with her husband.  Dewey had been coming over 15 years.  Gails husband died 5 years ago, and Dewey and his wife divorced.  They had been friends for years but they finally got together as a couple and are so happy together.

Gail is so sweet. She plays pool with the lady’s.  Dewey plays with the men.  They have decided to move back to Missouri near her kids and grandkids.  They were so excited to begin their new adventure together.  Gail put her trailor on the market and it sold really fast, so they left last week.  We will so miss them.

This year when we first got here, Gail had fallen and broke her arm.  She had a lot of fun with her cast.  Her daughter had sent her some stickers and she had us all autograph it. She couldn’t play pool till recently, but she still came and gave everyone moral support and visited.  ……..Good Luck Gail and Dewey……..I told them…Their the lucky ones, most people leave here in a box…..lol…They are heading for a new……” NEW ADVENTURE.”….Miss you both…..
